Uptown Station
Renovation of the historic Capwell Building in downtown Oakland included a series of large rooftop terraces to be used by the corporate office building tenants. The largest terrace nestles gathering spaces and contemplative strolling paths within a seasonal flowering meadow dotted by sculptural oak trees and humming with visiting pollinator species. The richness of plant diversity plays off the more streamlined and cadenced contemporary architectural renovation. Outdoor meeting rooms and elegant patio-like lounges characterize the series of small upper terraces looking down to the meadow, while at the apex, a stepped wooden platform provides wide views out to the Bay and urban skylines beyond.
